The Elgin National Watch Company was not the only manufacturer to offer specialty dial designs during the 1890s. The American Waltham Watch Company also furnished dials depicting colorful scenes, attracting customers wishing to showcase certain interests on their watch dial.

This horse racing dial was created using similar methods as the Elgin society and sporting dials. The basic design was applied to the dial using a newly-developed process and then enhanced by hand with vibrant colors. Considering the close relationship with the O’Hara Waltham Dial Company at the time, this dial may have been produced at the O’Hara factory.
