c.1890 Trenton Watch Company Trade Card

This trade card, distributed by the Trenton Watch Company around 1890, promoted the company and its new factory in Trenton, New Jersey. At the time, the factory had only been producing watches for approximately three years.
The front includes artistic text with the company name adjacent to the trademark, which includes the city seal of Trenton, New Jersey. The sales office is referenced as 177 Broadway in New York. The company’s leadership is also identified: J.H. Brewer, President; Geo. R. Whittaker, Treasurer and General Manager; S.P. Camp, Secretary; and S.T.J. Byam, Superintendent.

The reverse features an engraving of the factory in Trenton, New Jersey. This is one of the few watch factories in the United States that has survived over the years. The structure has been repurposed as an apartment building, and the “Trenton Watch Company” can still be seen on the edifice of the building.
