Waltham “Wm. Ellery” – Model 1865, 10-Size, 11 Jewels, c.1874, Serial No. 758654

Last week, we took a closer look at Charles W. Fogg’s patented safety pinion from the Model 1870 Crescent Street. This brilliant concept protected the movement from damage when the mainspring broke and forever changed watch production in America. While the Model 1870 is simply marked “Patent Pinion,” the Model 1865 movements feature a fully marked patent attribution for Fogg’s safety pinion. This 10-Size Model 1865 Wm. Ellery is prominently engraved around the center wheel: “Fogg’s Safety Pinion Pat Feb. 14 1865.”⠀
