“Portrait Gallery” Stereoscopic View of President Abraham Lincoln by Photographer Mathew Brady

I have been seeking this stereoscopic view of President Abraham Lincoln for quite some time. This one came up for auction recently, so I finally added it to the collection. The portrait was captured with a stereoscopic camera on January 8, 1864, by famed photographer Mathew Brady. I am posting it here because of the fashionable watch chain depicted in the photograph hanging from Lincoln’s vest. This chain is an exact match to the chain attached to Lincoln’s “George Chatterton” watch currently held at the Smithsonian. The inscriptions contained inside this watch have a fabled history as well… certainly worth the read when you have a moment.
