2024: Over 17,800 Images Added By Members This Year (Thank You!)

One of the best parts of the Pocket Watch Database is the eager participation of the watch-collecting community. Every day, members upload images and provide information about watches in their collections. The images and data points created by these contributors are immensely beneficial in ongoing research, leading to new valuable insights into the products and production of the American watch industry.

Images are critical in corroboration of information from factory serial lists and other sources. Collector-reported information is prone to error, but images offer visuals that can be analyzed to identify consistencies and anomalies.

This year, users contributed images for over 5,700 new watches with over 17,800 individual images of movements, dials, and cases.

These contributions are slowly revealing a more comprehensive understanding of watch factory production. For example, images of Rockford watches uploaded by database users now represent 55.5% of all Rockford runs delimited in the database. This means that over half of the database’s Rockford runs have movement images representing the same run returned by the lookup engine.

Hamilton is even better, with 65.2% of runs represented with same-run images.
